Unit 3 Reflection

We chose our genre for our Unit 3 Project because of our joint interests in staying fit and being healthy. We typically all see each other in the gym on a daily basis, so it just made sense to talk about how technology has impacted our health and wellness. Sydney’s Unit 2 Project was based on this topic and we decided that it would be smart to use one of our previous topics. We felt that we should use one of our previous topics because we wanted to know that the research we would be looking at were in support of our argument. We (Rhea and Lindsay) did our Unit 2 assignments on how technology has impacted the environment and the advertising industries. Although both of these topics have strong support and claims to argue, as a group we decided that we would create a better portfolio if we used a topic that all of us lived with everyday. Graphic Novels

The Graphic Novel I took out from Bird Library was titled  Uncle $crooge and Donald Duck "Escape from Forbidden Valley" . Since I don't remember the last time I read a Graphic Novel, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I automatically thought that graphic novels had to be more comedic in nature and tell less of a story, but I was able to find the opposite today. This graphic novel was clearly a Disney creation as the characters are all licensed by Disney. This emphasized the imagination and technology that had to be used in order to generate this book. Disney has a way of using the technology available to them to create something that is both entertaining and fit for people of all ages. This graphic novel is a form of technology because I believe that the illustrations on each of the pages was created for a purpose and had to have been created on a technological device. Additionally, the two pictures have humor to them, but they are tackling serious issues, which is what the podcast was all about. The podcast spoke directly about the use of moderators to control the content being put in the communities. These moderators eventually could "take over" the hateful communities and turn them into more humorous pages. I believe that having moderators on these pages is very influential because there is a specific point where a certain amount of hate just needs to be stopped. Question: Have technological innovations, such as the rise of social media, impacted the advertising industry? The rise in technology and social media has impacted many industries, as well as the daily lives of individuals. Unit 2 Freewrites

This free write was the most meaningful to me because it showed that I had experience in pitching an idea before. Additionally, I liked this one because sometimes when we are given assignments in class it seems impossible and something we have never seen before, while what we are being asked for is most likely something we have done a lot in our lives and never put a name to it. In this free write, I showed that pitching an idea for a research paper is just like pitching the idea to going on vacation with my family. This free write also opened up my imagination to showing different ways to pitch an idea. Instead of just saying my idea to a peer, it gave me the idea to pitch my idea to an audience using Instagram.
